How to Store Popcorn?
Although there are different varieties of popcorn available in the market, storing them all is almost the same. Whether it is popped popcorn or dry kernels, you must store it in cool and dry place. It is best to store the popcorn in the pantry or in a cupboard or a drawer in the kitchen.
Try to avoid keeping them near the stove which might eventually lead to the wetness inside the pack by which the popcorn won’t rise while heating. Also, you shouldn’t store them in the refrigerator as it creates some wetness inside the pack which leads to the similar issue.
You can also transfer the dry kernels or the popped popcorn (dry ones) in an airtight container after removing it from the pack. This airtight container should be kept sealed which will keep the popcorn fresh for a longer duration as this decreases the possibility of moisture on the popcorn and keeps it away from being soggy.
How long does Popcorn Last?
Shelf life of popped popcorn, dry kernels and the microwavable popcorn differs. The commercially sold popped popcorn has a shelf life of around two to three months from the date of manufacturing. Even after the labeled expiry date, you can have this popcorn but, the taste of it slowly changes as it dries out and loses its flavor. Also, once you open the pack and use half portion and look for saving the other half, then it stays fresh for a week after which it will start losing its flavor.
Dry kernels have indefinite shelf life. You can even have 8 to 10 years old kernel popcorns. Of course, the basic requirement is its storage. You are supposed to store them properly for that long period of time as the storage recommended above. Quick Tip: Dry kernels when cooked in air fryer, it really tastes good.
The Microwavable popcorn packets lasts for almost 3 months as the oil, butter and other ingredients may give away the flavor of the popcorn. And the nutrition from your popcorn goes off.
